Attic Insulation Toronto

Your attic is where a Toronto home loses heat first. Warm air rises, finds every gap in settled loose fill or aging batts, and escapes through the roof while your furnace runs to replace it.

The End of Ice Damming

Ice dams form when attic heat melts roof snow that refreezes at the cold eaves. A foamed attic keeps the roof deck cold and even, which protects shingles and eavestroughs and stops the February drip down your soffits. The same air seal blocks wind-driven snow and keeps attic moisture out of the framing.

Old Insulation Out First

Settled, damp or rodent-damaged material comes out before the new foam goes on: see our insulation removal service. Then the crew masks, preps and sprays an even, continuous layer. Most residential attics are done in a single day. Call (647) 692-4276 or request your free estimate below.

Where a Toronto Attic Loses Its Money

The heating season here runs long enough that small continuous losses accumulate into a large number, and the dominant path is air moving through gaps at the ceiling plane: around pot lights, at top plates, through plumbing chases and an unsealed attic hatch. Material lying above those gaps slows heat transfer while leaving the air exchange exactly as it was.

Century Houses Have Difficult Attics

A large share of Toronto's older stock was built with rafters rather than trusses, often with knee walls, dormers or a converted third storey. In those houses the conditioned space already extends into the roof structure, so material on the attic floor does very little and the insulation has to follow the roof line instead.

Ice Damming and Ceiling Stains

Warm air escaping into the attic warms the roof deck, snow melts, water runs to the cold eave and refreezes, and the dam that forms backs water under the shingles. It presents as a roof leak and gets quoted by roofers, but the mechanism is heat and air reaching the deck. Sealing the ceiling plane is what stops it recurring.

What the Finished Work Should Show

Depth measured and photographed where loose material went in. Consistent thickness across a roof deck where foam was applied, including the runs at the eaves where coverage slips most easily. Baffles in place where airflow has to be maintained. The hatch sealed and insulated. Penetrations sealed before anything was laid over them.

Questions

Common questions

Is attic insulation worth it in Ontario?

Yes. The attic is where most Ontario homes lose the most conditioned air, so it is usually the highest-payback area to insulate.

Do you remove the old attic insulation first?

Where the old material is settled, damp or damaged, it comes out before the new insulation goes in, and we quote that step up front.

How long does an attic project take?

Most residential attics are completed in a single day.
